Challenge: To create a cultural resource associated with the Metropolitan Water District’s Diamond Valley Lake Reservoir, the largest earthworks project on U.S. soil.
Solution: The first LEED Platinum rated museum in the U.S., the campus incorporates state-of-the-art technology and is designed as an immersive environmental learning experience. The sustainable technologies employed in this project include:
- Storm water capture and treatment.
- Heat reduction with choice and location of paving materials.
- Use of plant material native to the region
- Locally sourced materials
- State of the art drip irrigation systems that use reclaimed water
- Trees and shaded canopies strategically placed to shade significant areas
- Solar power will be used to provide energy for landscape lighting and irrigation controls
